A variation on a theme from Our Daily Bread’s April 22, 2012 devotional

2 Timothy 3:14-17 – All Scripture is given by inspiration of God…

When we first moved to Colorado in 1992 we went to see some friends in Durango. They moved from our hometown years before and loved every aspect of CO and their town. Through the years they had explored most of the mining towns around Durango and wanted to let us rejoice in God’s creation and man’s desperate desire to be wealthy no matter what the cost in the hunt for gold.

We were visiting in midsummer and the day was perfect. High in the mountains we came over a very steep ridge – one where you wondered if you would fall off the other side – and there was a meadow of wild flowers like we had never seen before. There was no one there – just us – a few high-mountain creatures in a zillion wild flowers. We couldn’t believe our eyes… Here God had planted and nourished these fragile looking beauties in one of the harsh environments imaginable.

Overwhelming….!

Going back to my mid-twenties it was the exact same thing, but it wasn’t wild flowers I discovered, but the bible. Like the wild flowers the bible is alive – it is God’s word! His voice written for us to enjoy, ponder and pray through His authors. If you haven’t had this adventure – hike over that ridge – walk into God’s word and be overwhelmed by His goodness. Like our wild flower day enjoy what He has done especially for you and you alone as you get overwhelmed by His beauty, creativeness, love and all He has for you – a gift – it’s free – take it – enjoy it – all done through His Son Jesus…

Acts 7:37-38 - “This is that Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will send you a prophet like me from your own people.’ 38 Moses was in the assembly in the desert, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers; and he received living words to pass on to us.

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

2 Tim 2:8-10 - “This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

1 Thes 2:13 - And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is at work in you who believe.

2 Tim 3:14-17 - But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
